Topic: MyDomain.org Vs Hostname.org

I have just installed a new iredmail server and so far so good, just one issue.

When my server recieves mail from some servers eg yahoo.com the error in the logs has @hostname.org [@mail.hostname.org] instead of @mydomain.org [@mydomain.org] like all the successfully delivered mail. I think this what is causing the "Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table" error. This is just happening with mail from some domains not all.

Here is part of the log;

Feb 22 12:35:06 mail postfix/smtpd[3689]: connect from web34205.mail.mud.yahoo.com[66.163.178.120]
Feb 22 12:35:06 mail postfix/smtpd[3689]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from web34205.mail.mud.yahoo.com[66.163.178.120]: 550 5.1.1 <user@mail.mydomain.org>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table; from=<sender@yahoo.com> to=<user@mail.mydomain.org> proto=SMTP helo=<web34205.mail.mud.yahoo.com>

Yes exists but receives mail as to=<user@mydomain.org> without the @mail.

Re: MyDomain.org Vs Hostname.org

Did yahoo change the recipient address? I'm confused why it happened.

If it was just Yahoo I would have concluded the same but how can Yahoo use the hostname and not the domain, and the same is true with a few domains. Gmail sends successfully I tested by sending one to myself from Yahoo using user@mydomain.org and somehow that was changed to user@mail.mydomain.org

Re: MyDomain.org Vs Hostname.org

It seems not a iRedMail issue, but Yahoo! "issue". Why not try to contact Yahoo! support?

I now have this issue on 60% of all the mail servers sending to me. I don't think its a Yahoo! only problem now. There is no way I will be able to contact all these domains. I feel there is something not right in iRedmail. Please help me I love iRedmail...

Re: MyDomain.org Vs Hostname.org

Do you have any 'address rewrite' rules in Postfix?

Re: MyDomain.org Vs Hostname.org

Well its not really a trick but a work around, I implemented

Address masquerading

Address masquerading is a method to hide hosts inside a domain behind their mail gateway, and to make it appear as if the mail comes from the gateway itself, instead of from individual machines.

NOTE: Postfix versions 2.2 and later rewrite message headers from remote SMTP clients only if the client matches the local_header_rewrite_clients parameter, or if the remote_header_rewrite_domain configuration parameter specifies a non-empty value. To get the behavior before Postfix 2.2, specify "local_header_rewrite_clients = static:all".

Address masquerading is disabled by default, and is implemented by the cleanup(8) server. To enable, edit the masquerade_domains parameter in the main.cf file and specify one or more domain names separated by whitespace or commas. When Postfix tries to masquerade a domain, it processes the list from left to right, and processing stops at the first match.

Example:

/etc/postfix/main.cf:
    masquerade_domains = foo.example.com example.com
strips "any.thing.foo.example.com" to "foo.example.com", but strips "any.thing.else.example.com" to "example.com".

A domain name prefixed with "!" means do not masquerade this domain or its subdomains:

/etc/postfix/main.cf:
    masquerade_domains = !foo.example.com example.com
does not change "any.thing.foo.example.com" and "foo.example.com", but strips "any.thing.else.example.com" to "example.com".
