Topic: postfix-policyd exited with return code 255

Since a couple of days this error message is mailed to root from cron:

postfix-policyd exited with return code 255

It's something recent because I've never seen such a message before. I guess it's related to some of the latest Debian updates but I don't know what caused it:

libpng12-0 1.2.27-2+lenny2 => 1.2.27-2+lenny3
libkadm55 1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-5lenny2 => 1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-5lenny3
libkrb5-dev 1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-5lenny2 => 1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-5lenny3
libkrb53 1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-5lenny2 => 1.6.dfsg.4~beta1-5lenny3

Anyone got the same issue?

Re: postfix-policyd exited with return code 255

Ah, tank you for the hint!

Yes, it's definitely a MySQL connection problem but I haven't been able to solve it.

I changed the default port of the MySQL server a while ago, so I added to the /etc/postfix-policyd.conf the line:

MYSQLPORT="xxx"

and I get it to work.

I also tried to connect to MySQL by socket but the result is:

postfix-policyd: mysql_real_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

I would prefer policyd to connect through the UNIX socket if possible: anyone knows why doesn't it work?

Re: postfix-policyd exited with return code 255

probably ur msqlserver didnot start,
if u already change msql port try to restart it & see mysqlserver is running well or not
hmm..i think if mysql running well with using new port is seem ok

it happen if we install IRM without first installing postfix-policyd (ubuntu)

is it ok if u remove mysql , reinstall it n reinstall postfix-policyd?

Re: postfix-policyd exited with return code 255

Sorry, I've been unclear. Now postfix-policyd is working good but I haven't been able to connect through socket. The path seems to be ok and also MySQL (is a production server, I had to change the MySQL public port for security issues) but it tells me it can't connect to it.

Does policyd work in a chroot?
