iRedMail → iRedMail Support → iredAPD?
So, at some point, I managed to stop iRedAPD from working. And, email kept working just fine, so I didn't actually notice it wasn't working until I looked at a log file one day.
So, the question is, what am I missing by not having iRedAPD going?

Which iRedAPD release are you running? iRedAPD-1.5.0 is buggy, you should upgrade to iRedAPD-1.6.0 immediately.

it can't connect to the postgresql database (I had changed passwords back during Heartbleed and evidently missed iredapd), at the moment:
The log file just fills up with stuff like:

So, even though it's running, and an old version (1.4.4, I think), I don't believe it's doing anything useful. Hence I haven't bothered upgrading it with the last several iredmail general upgrades.
*) Make sure it uses a correct SQL username/password for vmail database in /opt/iredapd/settings.py.

I think you misunderstood what I was asking.

iRedAPD has some plugins:
*) White/blacklists
*) Access policy for mailing list (or mail alias)
*) Throttling based on per-message size
*) Force users to change password in 90 days
*) Reject email sent with null sender
*) Reject sender login mismatch (this is a replacement for Postfix 'reject_sender_login_mismatch' restriction rule).
So, if you don't enable iRedAPD, you lost all of them.
isn't some of this handled by cluebringer?
We're replacing Cluebringer by iRedAPD, and plan to drop Cluebringer in future release.
