Topic: postfix SMTP relay to postfix SMTP server

Using OPENBSD 6.3
VMware workstation LAB. Isolated
AD functional level=2012
iRedmail = 0.9.8

OK for years I've left email requirements for the exchange guys and now i'm needing to understand all this stuff.

So I've configured an OPENBSD 6.3 server to use iRedMails 0.9.8 packages and intergrated dovecot into my AD, this works beautifully! All my test users can communicate using the webmail services.

My problem. Setting up an SMTP relay so applications and devices can send SMTP messages. How do I complete this??  Can I run the SMTP relay from the same server?? Or should I setup another postfix server as a relay. (I have actually tried this but it fails)

Can I add an anonymous relay to the current postfix config??

apologies if its a noob question.. All help will be rewarded with coffee..!

Why use a relay? Why not configure your application/devices to send email with smtp auth directly?
