Topic: New installation partly accessible.

==== REQUIRED BASIC INFO OF YOUR IREDMAIL SERVER ====
- iRedMail version (check /etc/iredmail-release): 0.9.9
- Deployed with iRedMail Easy or the downloadable installer? installer
- Linux/BSD distribution name and version: Debian 9 (squeeze)
- Store mail accounts in which backend (LDAP/MySQL/PGSQL):  MySQL
- Web server (Apache or Nginx): nginx
- Manage mail accounts with iRedAdmin-Pro? no
- [IMPORTANT] Related original log or error message is required if you're experiencing an issue.
====
The installer worked sweetly (apart from a blank window in place of the first welcome screen. only the buttons were present.)

https://mydomain/iredadmin/ gives: "502 Bad Gateway \ nginx"

https://mydomain/mail/ gives: "DATABASE ERROR: CONNECTION FAILED! \
Unable to connect to the database! \ Please contact your server-administrator."

https://mydomain/SOGo gives a nice login page.  I am unsure how to create a user and password, but it looks encouraging.

I have tried sending test mail to my unix user on the system.  Addressed to username@domain.tld, it is rejected " Relay access denied". Addressed to username@server.domain.tld, it is rejected "Recipient address rejected: Intentional policy rejection, please try again later" -- which I imagine must be greylisting.

This looks as though the mail elements are likely working as intended. I am unsure what is going on with the other components, or where to begin looking for the configuration faults.

I believe there was something wrong during iRedMail installation, did you notice any error on the console?

i guess you didn't save a copy of the console output, better do the installation again.

There were no errors; it is true I omitted to run script, but I watched the console and there were no warnings or errors.

I re-ran the install script, using the previous config file, since it looks correct. The script did not install anything new, but did update sogo and sogo-activesync. It then said < SKIP > for all remaining steps.

Where should I look for log files that will explain the RoundCube database error and the iredadmin 502 bad gateway? Or should I simply alter passwords or permissions directly in MySQL?

TIA

Re: New installation partly accessible.

Try this:

- Setup a fresh new server OS
- Download iRedMail installer (https://www.iredmail.org/download.html )
- run the installer

iRedMail installer directory has a sub-directory named "runtime/", it contains installation progress and log, if you re-run the installer without remove installation progress file, it will skip almost all steps.

Another way is try our new deployment / upgrade / technical support platform: iRedMail Easy.

I cannot see the point in repeating exactly what I have done. Computers are deterministic, and it will produce the identical result if I repeat the same procedure.

Thank you for trying.  I was impressed by the concept and the efficiency of the installer, but it is apparently not in a condition to succeed -- at least on a fresh Debian 9 server.  I will consider trying a different distro, although I prefer to run Debian on servers, as I find it easiest to administer.

I saw that you have a new platform that is paid for.  This is not a commercial server, so I am minimizing expense.  I usually give donations to developers of software once it proves itself useful, but prefer to keep the costs on charity work low.

- Does file iRedMail-0.9.9/runtime/install.log contain any error?

I think the problem is we don't have the console output for troubleshooting, although you claimed there's no error on console, but we're not sure about this claim. i understand you're an experience sysadmin, but that doesn't mean an experience sysadmin doesn't make any mistake or ignore something important. We just need relevant log for troubleshooting.

Many users run Debian 9 + iRedMail smoothly, so Debian 9 is not a problem at all. We just need to figure out why it doesn't work for you, and we're here to help you out.

Thanks for the rapid reply!

This really shows up an important omission in your script, or in the installation instructions. If the script does not log itself, you should instruct users to run ' # script -t 2>~/install-iredmail.time -a ~/install-iredmail.script' or something similar...

For unconnected reasons, I am looking at possibility of running a further vm.  If I do, I will have a fresh server to try again.  Given the amount of time wasted on reinstating everything else after reimaging, installing and testing iredmail, I am not keen to simply do it over again.

Re: New installation partly accessible.

Excuse my reply to self...

I have now successfully installed on a new vm but still on Debian 9.

So evidently there must have been a problem external to iRedMail with the previous attempts.  I would mark this thread CLOSED if I could see how.
