My server is a fresh Debian 9 install running nothing other than iRedMail. I'm seeing an error from cron each day regarding logrotate:

/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'
error: error running shared postrotate script for '/var/log/mysql/mysql.log /var/log/mysql/mysql-slow.log /var/log/mysql/mariadb-slow.log /var/log/mysql/error.log '
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/logrotate exited with return code 1

Has anyone else seen this? Googling around it appears the login details need to be in /etc/mysql/debian.cnf but that file is automatically generated. It also cannot be right to have the mysql root password in a plain text file surely...
