Topic: Possible consequences for enabling ZLIB on an active server

We currently have a server up and running with iRedMail and everything is going great. I have now been tasked with enabling compression and what I think I want to do is just enable the ZLIB package and setup a cron job to compress the historic messages. In my research it seems like this is pretty simple and will not impact our existing users. Is there anything I am overlooking that might cause problems for my current user base?
