Can I pick up the /var/vmail/backup/mysql/ and the /var/vmail/vmail1/ and resort them from my v0.9.8 to a new fresh server iredmail v0.9.9?

Or I need first update in the old server from v0.9.8 to v0.9.9 and then restore the new backup in the new fresh server installation?

You'd better upgrade to 0.9.9 first so that you have same SQL structure on both servers, then you can simply export SQL databases on old server and import on new server.
