I was seeing disk size starting to grow faster than expected, and found what appear to be orphaned emails in tmp directories. For instance one user has 138GB in the .Sent/tmp folder, which doesn't show in their disk usage. What are those, why and how might they have been created, and can I safely just delete all of those files. There other largish tmp directories, but I think that is the biggest.

Re: huge tmp folders

The "tmp" directory inside IMAP folder is handled by Dovecot internally. Did you notice any error in Dovecot log related to this user?
