I tried to install iRedMail 1.6.8 on FreeBSD 13.2 but it failed:

===> Fetching all distfiles required by tcl86-8.6.13 for building
===>  openssl-1.1.1t,1 Invalid perl5 version 5.38.
*** Error code 1

Stop.
make[1]: stopped in /usr/ports/security/openssl
*** Error code 1

Stop.
make: stopped in /usr/ports/devel/py-Jinja2
<< ERROR >> Failed in downloading package(s), please fix it manually and then relaunch iRedMail installer.

The full log is attached.

Can I do anything about this? I want to use ZFS, that's why I preferred FreeBSD.

Is that it then?

One package does not work with another and therefore iRedMail 1.6.8 cannot be installed on FreeBSD 13.2?

There has to be a way!

Re: iRedMail 1.6.8 installation fails on FreeBSD 13.2

My apologies...

Since I knew I would need the source code for the system and the port tree, I checked both options during installation, and that was why I skipped this step:

portsnap fetch extract update

It appears that PERL v5.38 is not included in the FreeBSD 13.2 default install port tree; that was why it failed.

After doing a fresh install (with the source code AND without the port tree), I followed the procedure suggested by iRedMail and I did not get the error. But this time, there seems to be no end to the installation. It has been going on for 11 hours and 38 minutes as of now.

Is this normal? How long should I expect this to take?

Installing one package may involves other big dependent software like, rust, llvm, etc...
Choose Linux if you don't like this.
