Topic: Quick confirmation of backup before Ubuntu Upgrade

Hi All,

Running latest 1.6.3 On Ubuntu18LTS

Ubuntu18LTS has reached EOL and I need to move onto new Ubuntu22LTS on a new server.

For the move to the fresh new server, Do I backup the whole /var/vmail folder and Mysql database?

Will it move over to the exact file location on the Iredmail server?

Anything Else I need to move over, or settings to watch out for?

Regards

I finally found in the docs this:

https://docs.iredmail.org/migrate.to.ne … erver.html

Would this one be the correct one to follow?

Re: Quick confirmation of backup before Ubuntu Upgrade

you could upgrade the old 18 to new 22 via do-release-upgrade (of course you should have all backups / snapshots)
https://docs.iredmail.org/upgrade.ubunt … 20.04.html
the procedure is the same. just upgrade leaving all the configuration untouched (default N)
after upgrade copy /etc/php/7.4/fpm/pool.d/www.conf to /etc/php/8.1/fpm/pool.d/www.conf

or

you can set a new server import DBs (from the link you provided) and migrate all mails with imapsync

Re: Quick confirmation of backup before Ubuntu Upgrade

Hi dave.opc

Thank you for this, and apologies for the late reply.

Tried a do-release-upgrade, but it broke a few things. Even broke the iredadmin page, LOLOL

Going to go the new 22LTS install/migrate path.

Don't forget to (re-)upgrade iRedAPD, mlmmjadmin, iRedAdmin(-Pro) after OS upgrade, their upgrade scripts will install required Python modules on new OS release.
