No errors, just wondering about upgrading Ubuntu from 24.04 LTS to 26.04 LTS. Can that be done in-place, or does it require a full backup and clean reinstall?  I've had wonderful luck in the past with updates, but thought it was worth asking about.

If you are in a position to take a snapshot (if this is a virtual server), do so.  There are some disruptive updates (dovecot in particular) that will take you some time to sort out the configs.

I don't foresee any issues with your upgrade path, however, as I'm currently on (unsupported) Ubuntu 26.10 and ran 26.04 since it was in beta.

Tangentially, to any who come after, do NOT upgrade to 26.10 without looking ahead at the impacts to mariadb (libmysqlclient24 is not your friend in this update if you are operating with IP connections).

- It's ok for in place upgrade for the OS itself, and it's always a good idea to do backup.
- Ubuntu 24.04 offers Dovecot 2.3, but 26.04 offers 2.4 which has incompatible config syntax, which means your Dovecot will be broken right after os upgrade, please do some practice with this tutorial for Dovecot upgrade: https://docs.iredmail.org/upgrade.debia … ml#dovecot
- SOGo is not available on ubuntu 26.04, so if you need SOGo, don't upgrade for now.
