Topic: Thunderbird cannot login (missing UID, mail_uid setting)

Hallo

I've setup iRedMail 0.7 on a ubuntu 10.04.
After I created my first domains and the first user I wanted to configure thunderbird for reading emails.
The detection for STARTTLS and so on shows a green icon but no login is possible.

dovecot.log shows:

where do I start to fix this?

Please post output of command "dovecot -n" here, there could be something wrong with your dovecot config.

You have only one uid related setting in your dovecot.conf. It should have 4 like below:

mail_uid = 1001
mail_gid = 1001
first_valid_uid = 1001
last_valid_uid = 1001

Replace '1001' with uid/gid of system user 'vmail'. You can get its uid with below command:

# id vmail

perfect! the 4 settings where in dovecot.conf but with no value. after adding the vmail user id to the 4 settings thunderbird started working :-)
