Primary MX is IRED Pro
Backup is IRED Free

Backup MX thinks it owns domain when sending from shell/web process email and errors with user unknown.
dns resoltions point to primary (confirmed by hand)

not sure where I should be looking but all configs seem to be set properly.

Which backend do you use?

There's a bug in the latest iRedAdmin-Pro, it doesn't correctly update data for backup mx. It's fixed in development edition and will be available in upcoming release.
