Topic: Swap file as replacement for RAM

Since setting up a new server have been seeing errors like the below which stopped email from being able to be received. Will a swap file solve this as opposed to more RAM?

(01601-18) (!!)file(1) utility (/usr/bin/file) FAILED: run_command: can't fork: Cannot allocate memory at /usr/sbin/amavisd-new line 4850.

Re: Swap file as replacement for RAM

How much RAM does it have now?

- Better always have a SWAP disk with same size of your RAM. If RAM is big, it's ok to have smaller SWAP.
- Better have more RAM since clamav already reported OOM (out of memory).

Server has 2 GB RAM.

Re: Swap file as replacement for RAM

Minimal requirement is 4 GB RAM for production server. 2GB is not enough and ClamAV may exist due to no enough memory.

Re: Swap file as replacement for RAM

2 GB server with 2 GB SWAP space has been working fine for about 2 weeks now.
