Topic: How to use iRedMail as EMail-Archive?

==== REQUIRED BASIC INFO OF YOUR IREDMAIL SERVER ====
- iRedMail version (check /etc/iredmail-release): V1.4.2
- Evaluation phase - NO current installation

Hello community,

I´m evaluating iRedMail and I wonder about the possibilities to use it - beside the functions as EMail-Server - for EMail-archiving too?

Where could I find documentation on this or are there recommendations / suggestions for such a concept somewhere?

Thanks in advance. smile

You just need to save the maildirs, so i don't know what you want to do with iredmail for archive

Thanks for this brilliant idea, I´ll come back to it, after you have explained your concept, how to reach EU GDPR compliance with and - on the same time - solve that all without extra work..... big_smile

Re: How to use iRedMail as EMail-Archive?

mails are just plaintext files saved in a folder, nothing else
i really dont know what you want about EU GDPR at all, saved mails are neither encrypted nor anoymized, contain all headers, and so on

it is in the nature of EU GDPR, that saving those is of interest and needed

Re: How to use iRedMail as EMail-Archive?

I understand as mail archiving set of features not just backup. See software like below:
https://www.mailarchiva.com/
https://www.mailpiler.org/

I would love to see support for such a features in iRedMail. I see many accounts (my personal inclusive) on my server badly managed. Emails are never deleted and users tend to keep everything in live mailbox.

It would be nice to be able to configure rules for mail archiving (mailbox size, amount of emails in mailbox, retention period), be able to archive individual emails in webmail and have links in webmail to access searchable mailarchive.

I hate gibabytes and dozens thousands of emails in mailbox with poor and slow search functionality.

We're developing an email archiving software in Golang and it's in private beta, now refactoring to replace ElasticSearch and MySQL.

Hi @camel1cz,

Please check out our alpha release here: https://spider-archiver.com

WARNING: It's still in ALPHA stage which means you may need to start from scratch and lose archived data when new release is out, it's ok for testing and early access, but please DO NOT USE IT FOR PRODUCTION yet.
