Topic: Use Iredmail on servers with port 587 TLS only

Hello everyone.

I have a very simple question but I would like an expert point of view to clarify.

I use iredmail to send transactional emails (I have a social network). The server is different from my server where I have installed my website and everything is working fine. To allow sending emails, I use an smtp connection on port 587.

However, I would like to change the server on which Iredmail is installed and place it in the same location as the server (the two servers are thousands of km apart) of the website but the company only allows communication on port 587 (the one I would need).

The server where iredmail is installed has no problem with port 25 while the new server has port 25 limited.

Having said that, I ask:
installing iredmail email on this new server (even if with port 25 limited) I shouldn't have problems with sending limits since I use port 587 right?
Can I go easy and install everything, I think...
or is it still necessary for port 25 to be completely
unlocked for everything to work?

Thanks to whoever will answer

Re: Use Iredmail on servers with port 587 TLS only

587 is used for client to connect to server and send mail
while 25 port is used to receive mail from another server
this beign said: if your mail server is receiving mails from other servers - then you need port 25 with no limitations

I understand. So port 587 to send email and port 25 to receive from another server.
In my case, which I don't have to receive but only send (notifications to members) might be fine even if port 25 is limited I understand, right?
The communication that takes place between my server (where the website is installed and where the smtp plugin with TLS port 587 credentials is present) and the server where iredmail is installed? Is port 25 involved in this case?

Thank you for your time!

Re: Use Iredmail on servers with port 587 TLS only

you send mail to server on port 587
servers send between each other on port 25

so if 25 is blocked, no mail can be sent out or received

In your case it will work, if the website connects to iredmail (port 587) and sends emails to users that are on this iredmail server. In this case 25 port is not used. Users then connect to iredmail server via let's say imaps (port 993) and receive their emails
