Topic: how to set up iredmail on a web server

- iRedMail version (check /etc/iredmail-release): 1.6.8
- Deployed with iRedMail Easy or the downloadable installer? download
- Linux/BSD distribution name and version: xubuntu 23.10
- Store mail accounts in which backend (LDAP/MySQL/PGSQL): ldap
- Web server (Apache or Nginx): i guess apache
- Manage mail accounts with iRedAdmin-Pro? no
- [IMPORTANT] Related original log or error message is required if you're experiencing an issue.

so i'm trying to set up iredmail on a computer i use to host my website, i cant figure out how to set up the hostnames

hostname: compute
hosts: 127.0.0.1      mail.example.com mail localhost

it keeps setting the domain to mail.example.com so i need a different domain when i need it to be example.com and the different one to mail.example.com

and this hostname and hosts wont work:

hostname: example
hosts: 127.0.0.1      example.com localhost

Why can't you have the name mail.example.com for the iRedMail server? Just name your website examle.com with www. or something else at the beginning and tell this to nginx.

It's recommended to run email server on a separated / dedicated server.
