Did you check files under /etc/logrotate.d/*?

Re: Mail.log records

in folder /etc/logrotate.d/*  you have config files to manage all log rotations.

The log rotation of /var/log/mail.log file, as other system log files, is defined into the file /etc/logrotate.d/rsyslog

If you have any doubt about configuration file, "man logrotate" will help you.
