Topic: Server Hostname vs First Mail Domain

==== REQUIRED BASIC INFO OF YOUR IREDMAIL SERVER ====
- iRedMail version:  iRedMail-1.7.0
- Deployed with downloadable installer
- Linux/BSD distribution name and version: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
- Store mail accounts in which backend (LDAP/MySQL/PGSQL): PGSQL
- Web server (Apache or Nginx): Nginx
- Manage mail accounts with iRedAdmin-Pro? No
====

When you are first setting up iRedMail you are expected to set the Server Hostname in /etc/hosts & /etc/hostname
Then later during the installation process you are asked to set your first mail domain and warned "It can *NOT* be the same as server hostname"

What are these two things doing exactly, and why is there a distinction between the two?
What are best-practices logic for setting them up?
