Topic: Problem with Amavis failure regularly

- iRedMail 1.7.1
- Deployed with iRedMail the downloadable installer
- Debian 12.06 / 64 bit
- 4 mail accounts in which MySQL
- Web server  Nginx
- Manage mail accounts with iRedAdmin-Pro - No

Do you want to know why I'm here discussing the problem of iRedMail failing to install on FreeBSD?
It's because I was finally disappointed with the reliability of iRedMail 1.7.1 on Debian 12.
After installing iRedMail and disabling anti-virus Clamav I started seeing regular Amavis service failures.
It works for a day or two and then dies. So mail reception is disrupted, it stops coming to me.
I have reinstalled Debian 12 and iRedMail several times, but this problem has been repeated over and over again.
I'm very annoyed by its nasty behavior, because it prevents me from carrying out my business plans and creates a lot of unpleasant problems.

So I want to switch to FreeBSD.  Will you soon correct the outdated and incorrect instruction for this OS?

Re: Problem with Amavis failure regularly

and why is amavis dead?

journalctl -u amavis -n 50

if amavis is crashing, switshing to another OS won't make a difference if the core problem is not solved, my first guess is just OOM kill and your specs are not fitting the requirements

Re: Problem with Amavis failure regularly

I don't believe you. Is that your excuse for not updating the documentation for FreeBSD 14?

Re: Problem with Amavis failure regularly

I am not related to any documentation at all, and where did you see any excuse?
Every OS uses the very same software: postfix, dovecot, amavis, sa, mysql, iredapd, nginx, and so on

I asked you for the reason amavis died, i aven gave you the command for extracting the corresponding log, but instead you keep on ranting

So you want help? or want to keep complaning only?

If you don't change your poor attitude, good luck with getting any voluntary support

How much memory does your server have?

How much memory does your server have?

RAM = 1024 MB.

Are you saying it's not enough?
Hmm, but on another host with exactly the same amount of RAM and also with Clamav disabled, iRedMail v1.6.5 on Alma v8 has been running for over 2 years without any such errors.

The persistent problem with Amavis only appears on Debian 12.

Re: Problem with Amavis failure regularly

Dude, you complain that the docs are outdated, but in reality you don't even read them:

To install iRedMail on Debian or Ubuntu Linux, you need:

A FRESH, working Debian/Ubuntu Linux. Supported releases are listed on Download page.
At least 4 GB memory is required for a low traffic production mail server with spam/virus scanning enabled.

You run your system on 4 times below minimum requirements and wonder you have problems?

I am out on any of your topics

Re: Problem with Amavis failure regularly

- Did you ever check the log file you attached in forum posts? It's clear that ClamAV is not disabled. FYI https://docs.iredmail.org/completely.di … assin.html
- Ask ClamAV developers to use less memory, stop complaining to me.
- Read the iRedMail installation tutorials, AT LEAST 4GB memory is required for a LOW TRAFFIC mail server. Spam and virus scanning take a lot memory. And it's not iRedMail's fault.
- Just discuss the tech issues, stop the useless and annoying complains.

Re: Problem with Amavis failure regularly

@Odol
You probably have tight budget for very few mailboxes. Do try to get a few more GB.
Yeah, if turn off the clam antivirus is desired and you can do it.

FYI, memory use in kb by clamd in quiet, it's already over 1GB
# ps -o vsz=,rss= `pgrep clamd`
2590860 1489048

And if no need for advanced feature such as Sogo / Activesync, you can still use roundcube.

There are howto all over the net for simple postfix with dovecot imap and roundcube.

Have a nice day.

You all didn't read my post carefully, so you drew false conclusions.
So I will write to you again, but later.
