Topic: encrypted mail

greetings!

i am exploring how to configure encrypted emails via iredmail and thunderbird.
i have created an ssl certificate on my server for nginx and iredmail also has one.

i followed the guidelines for mail encryption with thunderbird here (http://lifehacker.com/180878/how-to-encrypt-your-email) -
yet i am confused.. openPGP encryption appears to be a 'private' method of encryption that is separate from the SSL method..
so.. can i use openPGP directly with iredmail's apps?
do i need to?

i have created openPGP keys in thunderbird for the accounts i am using.. i am unsure how to connect this with iredmail directly.

when i enable encrypted passwords in thunderbird i see an error message that the pop3 account is not configured to use encryption. i do have the 'connection security' option set to SSL/TLS in thunderbird.. does this offer any type of encryption?

what do i need to do?

(i did already ask a similar question months ago here.. the situation is slightly different now and i never got this working previously).

thanks

This is not related to PGP signing. Please configure Thunderbird to enable TLS for POP3/IMAP/SMTP services.
