Easy, fast and WORKING deployment are my main reasons. Secondary reasons are that the project is being supported and actively worked on. For me, a pre-requisite for any project of this nature is to have the full participation of the technical community and hence knowledge base benefits are significant. I also like the fact that mainstream, tried and tested components are used.

My answers are
1. Fast to deploy...takes not more then 30 minutes to get it up and running
2. Some features can be still added, and some can be improved but I have all that I need at the moment.
3.Stable. Only some issues with LDAP database on unclean shutdown but this is an LDAP issue.
4.Use CentOS...and everything is super fine.
5. This forum is great...hope it will remain so. After deploying and installing when having free time will answer questions if dealed with problem.
6.This is indeed good because a lot of good projects stopped development. I will try to make donations on regular basic when I'll get my credit card.

I spent almost 2 weeks but still failed to have a postfix mail server run.

Those are my reasons. Setting up a full-featured mail server could take days. I also tried various Web interfaces such as cPanel and Plesk but they are quite buggy. I just needed a script to configure the base mail system for me and then I could go on customizing it.

Well, I've just installed iRedMain/Admin on my new server and it seems to work flawlessy out-of-box. I have to ask a couple of question though (in another thread).

The main reason I chose iredmail was because of the complete package setup.

I am interested in iRedMail because, after having been involved in administering Linux systems since 1996, I am tired of having to spend two weeks to setup a fully featured functioning mail system. Having done this for 14 years, I have seen the increase in difficulty of getting a dozen different programs to work together in order to have a fully functioning mail system that supports many many features.

A bare basic install seems simple; install qmail, link it with spamassassin and a virus scanner, setup a POP3 and IMAP server, and put up SquirrelMail or RoundCube and you're ready to go. But in reality it's a major pain the butt. All of these products are developed by different people and, on varying distros, provide a challenge when there are different paths and configurations and different flags passed to the compiler, etc. Throw on top of that the need for authentication and LDAP and multiple webmail systems and a calendar and virtual users and virtual domains and many other things, and it quickly becomes overwhelming.

It's easy then to just purchase a commercial all-in-one setup, and I would do that at times depending on the install. Another good free full-featured setup was 'qmail toaster' but there are a lot of issues compiling and configuring this on some systems as it's not as actively developed (if not at all) as it should be.

BOTTOM LINE --

I chose iRedMail because it is actively developed, is quick to configure and setup (relatively) and even has a Linux distribution with it pre-installed ready to go out of the box, and is full featured. I have had some issues with it but it's mainly because I am unfamiliar with postfix. I am learning how to properly modify postfix and amavisd and policyd configuration files and it is becoming easier.

If iRedMailAdmin was more featured in order to allow easy configuration of postfix, policyd and amavisd (as well as spamassassin rules for it), it would be much better. Also an easy e-mail alias/forward system would be nice. Qmail Toaster did all of this. I'd like to see it here!

iRedMail is really interesting because of it's great features such as easy implementation, faster and easier backups and a lot more...and thanks for all the reliable information in this thread that helps me a lot in writing my research paper and essay about new and great opensource mail..thanks again for this product...

I would go with:

1. It uses mainstream, tried and tested components
2. It is very stable
3. Easy and fast to deploy

Hi Guys,

I want to know about iredmail server "how much reliable/ stable" is this. Means if i have a 1000 users in my company which will use mailing feature on this, is it will work for years and years.
Because in any any organazation you can't take a risk with your mail server.
If yes its reliable then can i use this with iredOS, because i don't want to take a pain. Because in iredOS its provide CLI environment....
