Topic: Survey: What solution do you need with OpenLDAP backend?

hi, all.

Just want to know any other solution you need with OpenLDAP backend.

We've integrated several solutions with iRedMail mail solution which use OpenLDAP for user auth/identified, includes OpenFire IM service, SugarCRM, Mediawiki, Trac, etc. we will release integration documents later.

I don´t really know the practical use of LDAP, I made my googling and reading, and understand it, could someone put some examples of real uses on a small or medium company? Thank you.

Redmine integration would be a nice feature, But I thing IM & FTP are more important initially. In time, some kind of CHROOTed SSH (and therefore SFTP) would be usefull.

I voted for "Others" since I would consider http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trac a potential candidate. I do agree however that some chat service (XMPP based) sounds like the thing that makes the most sense ... with iredmail you got a mail system so the next logical step is that folks would want some chat service as well over all other things.

By chat service I mean multi user chat and instant messaging like for example ejabberd or openfire does it.

Re: Survey: What solution do you need with OpenLDAP backend?

Redmine (http://www.redmine.org/) is basically the same as Trac, but after trying both, Redmine is a clear winner.

--EDIT--
Also, to add to that. After a quick google search Redmine and OpenFire seem to do LDAP integration quite easily, where as I could only find problem reports for Trac and ejabbered.

After I repair my mail system (going to reinstall when 0.5 gets released), I may give it a go to get more of my stuff to use LDAP for Auth. If I remember to, I will write up instructions to get it going :)

It would be nice to have SSH key authentication integrated with LDAP, the OpenSSH-LPK project can provide this feature.

I also like the openvpn solution http://code.google.com/p/openvpn-auth-ldap/.

now redhat have provide the rpm, we can install the openvpn-auth-ldap through yum.

Re: Survey: What solution do you need with OpenLDAP backend?

I currently have a LDAP server that I use for authentication. I would be interested in keeping my existing LDAP database and have iRedMail authenticate with it. Integrating an IM service would be a nice feature.
Thanks.
