Dear ired team,

As the subject of this topic i want to ask can we set port 587 with SSL protocol as outgoing mail? Because we develop application to port 587 with protocol SSL.
I know we can set protocol SSL with port 465, but can we change it to port 587?

Best regards

marccell

Re: Can we set port 587 with SSL protocol as outgoing mail?

*) Why not use port 465 for SSL, and keep 587 for TLS?
*) Why not adjust your application to CORRECTLY use port 465 and 587?

You'd better use standard ports, don't mix them.

Re: Can we set port 587 with SSL protocol as outgoing mail?

I changed my SSH port, so now I receive zero login attempts in my server.

I thought about doing the same with the e-mail ports, so people don't try to send e-mail with my server, and I avoid reading about their attempts in the daily reports.

Is there a reason to avoid non standard ports? I was just going to ask where could I change them for e-mail...

Cheers

Re: Can we set port 587 with SSL protocol as outgoing mail?

*) Other mail servers talk to your mail server on port 25. If you disable port 25, others cannot send mail to your server.
*) Port 465 and 587 are used for users to submit their emails for sending. You can switch to another port if you don't want to use standard port.
