Hello there ,
I was checking for updates today and found that the following packages needs update :

would that harm the iredmail installation ??

Updates such as those will not harm iRedMail, only updates that potentially can is Dovecot1 to Dovecot2 [major package update]

so the postfix update and nginx won't harm the iredmail ? .

They'll both be minor, and I've done the nginx one myself, don't recall the postfix one but it'll be a minor one so nothing should happen

Usually, it's ok to update binary packages with package management tool like yum/apt-get/... (and this is the important point why iRedMail installs packages from software repositories provided by Linux/BSD vendor instead of building our own repositories).

If some software doesn't provide backward-compatible settings, it will become an issue. but as far as i know, Debian/Ubuntu package maintainers handle this quite well, so it's safe to update packages with 'apt-get'.
