Topic: SMTP over SSL/TLS

==== Required information ====
- iRedMail version: 0.9.0
- Store mail accounts in which backend (LDAP/MySQL/PGSQL): MariaDB
- Web server (Apache or Nginx): Apache
- Linux/BSD distribution name and version:  Ubuntu 14 LTS
- Related log if you're reporting an issue:

Hi,

Need to use mail server on some web applications (forum, ect.). However most such applications will only send via SMTP over SSL/ TLS if using a non-local mail server.

iRedMail only supports STARTTLS out of the box.

So followed the guide here: http://www.iredmail.org/docs/enable.smtps.html
to enable SMTP over SSL/ TLS

SMTP over SSL/ TLS didn't work after following guide and restarting.

Here is the relevant output (I believe) from the log file:
May  1 10:05:40 mail postfix/smtpd[2457]: fatal: unexpected command-line argument: smtps
May  1 10:05:41 mail postfix/master[2185]: warning: process /usr/lib/postfix/smtpd pid 2457 exit status 1
May  1 10:05:41 mail postfix/master[2185]: warning: /usr/lib/postfix/smtpd: bad command startup -- throttling

Assistance appreciated.

Can you show us your /etc/postfix/master.cf?

Re: SMTP over SSL/TLS

Tried both

-o smtpd_client_restrictions=permit_sasl_authenticated,reject (in tutorial)
&
-o smtpd_client_restrictions=$mua_client_restrictions (default)

Also followed guide here: http://www.iredmail.org/docs/allow.inse … tions.html
Insecure SMTP over port 25 didn't work either.

Still have not got SMTP over SSL/TLS working.

Below is the relevant log information:

Re: SMTP over SSL/TLS

Let's make it simpler:

*) Comment out existing smtps related settings in master.cf first.
*) Append below settings (do not modify it) to master.cf:

smtps inet n - n - - smtpd
  -o smtpd_tls_wrappermode=yes
  -o smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes
  -o smtpd_client_restrictions=permit_sasl_authenticated,reject

*) Restart Postfix service.

Does it work for you?

Re: SMTP over SSL/TLS

It does work.

Re: SMTP over SSL/TLS

Is there an easy way to use port 587 for SSL/TLS SMTP?

Am guessing not since STARTTLS already uses port 587...

10

Re: SMTP over SSL/TLS

Erm, that's enabled by default; Port 587 is TLS [NOT SSL]
thats the "submission" entry in the master.cf file
the guide you followed was for Port 465 SSL [NOT TLS]

Your config has the following submission entry:

submission inet n - n - - smtpd
  -o smtpd_tls_security_level=encrypt
  -o smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes
  -o smtpd_client_restrictions=permit_mynetworks,permit_sasl_authenticated,reject

Oh ignore me, you want explicit TLS, not StartTLS

Re: SMTP over SSL/TLS

Correct.
