following your update docs to upgrade sogod from v3.x > 4.x, and now service fails to start. according to journalctl:

kernel: sogod[25074]: segfault at 7ffec6050c78 ip 00007f1b69c139cf sp 00007ffec6050c60 error 6 in libgnustep-base.so.1.24.9[7f1b69881000+4dc000]

also, not sure if this matters, but when running sogo's mysql db update script, it states that it will ask for your password twice, but it only did so once. probably nothing but wanted to mention it.

all sogo tools are segfaulting (my cron jobs have been trying to run as well):

gnustep*
libwbxml*

Seems caused by gnustep packages.
Try command "rpm -qi gnustep-base" to figure out which yum repository offers the gnustep-base package. If it's offered by official yum repo, try to install the one from SOGo yum repo instead.

haha, so yeh, it was installed from epel. and in sogo's official install guide i just found they tell you to do this:

sed -i '/enabled=1/a \
exclude=gnustep*' /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo

basically what i just did after removing all gnustep packages. reinstalled from sogo repo but now i get:

Job for sogod.service failed because a timeout was exceeded.

journalctl states:

sogod.service start operation timed out. Terminating.
systemd[1]: Unit sogod.service entered failed state.
systemd[1]: sogod.service failed.

still digging around.

i had to kill the cronjobs; when they ran they pegged my cpu at 100% for minutes at a time. i should have done that anyway until this issue is sorted out so now all sogo is disabled. the service start still times out.

What's the error message in SOGo log file (/var/log/sogo/sogo.log)?

What's the log in SOGo log file RIGHT AFTER you restarted sogo service? paste it here please.

The lines you have in your possession already show what's logged after a restart; the later ones. It's reported as a timeout. To me, the log tells me little to nothing.

The later lines towards the end of the file is what I interpreted as the log lines related to the timeouts.

strange oddity now; reverting to v3.x and restoring an old DB backup prior to the db update script also fails to start the service with a similar error. so what happened i wonder?
