Hi,

I've an iRedMail installation on an old Ubuntu 18.04 and need to update it.
This versions are currently installed
iRedMail - 1.5.0
iRedAdmin-Pro - 5.0
iRedAPD - 5.0.3
mlmmjadmin - 3.1.2
roundcube 1.4.7
netdata 1.32.1

What is the best path to upgrade Ubuntu and iRedMail with its components? On what version of iRedMail should the OS be updated?

Is this a possible way to go?
Upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 with current installation of iRedMail.
Then Upgrade iRedMail to 1.6.1 and iRedAdmin-Pro to 5.3
Upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04
Upgrade iRedMail to 1.7.1 and iRedAdmin-pro to 5.7.1
Upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04

And iRedAPD, mlmjadmin, roundcube and netdata can be updated at any time. Only have to check the requirements (php, mysql/mariadb).

I hope you could help me with my questions.
Best regards,
KeX

Can you please tell me if my suggested upgrade path is OK or if other steps should be done?

Re: Upgrade iRedMail and Ubuntu OS

it's ok.

But since you own a valid iRedAdmin-Pro license (i hope it's still valid?), here's another upgrade path: Migrate to iRedMail EE. FYI https://forum.iredmail.org/topic20762.html

Upgrade path:

- Upgrade iRedMail to latest iRedMail-1.7.2 first.
- Upgrade OS to 20.04. 20.04 is the oldest Ubuntu release supported by EE.
- Make sure MariaDB is running, migrate to iRedMail Enterprise Edition (EE) directly. FYI https://docs.iredmail.org/iredmail.to.ee.html

After you have EE running, each time you want to upgrade OS:

- Upgrade OS to next major release. e.g. 20.04 -> 22.04.
- Login to EE as global admin, click "Deployments" on left side bar, click "Re-perform full deployment", so that EE will help generate config files for new OS release.

Same steps to upgrade to 24.04. smile

Re: Upgrade iRedMail and Ubuntu OS

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, iRedAdmin-Pro license is still valid! I'll think and read about the migration. But for now I've to stay with iRedAdmin-Pro and quickly move away from Ubuntu 18.04.

When staying with iRedAdmin-Pro the first step would be to Upgrade Ubuntu to 20.04 and then upgrade iRedMail and iRedAdmin-Pro to the latest versions. After that Upgrade Ubuntu to 22.04 and then to 24.04.

Is this correct?

Thanks,
KeX

Re: Upgrade iRedMail and Ubuntu OS

Or is it better to upgrade iRedMail and iRedAdmin-Pro to the latest version with Ubuntu 18.04 and then upgrade Ubuntu?

Re: Upgrade iRedMail and Ubuntu OS

I suggest upgrade iRedMail first, then upgrade OS.
After OS upgrade, re-download latest version of few Python programs and upgrade again: mlmmjadmin, iRedAPD, iRedAdmin-Pro, their upgrade script will help install required python modules on new OS release.

Re: Upgrade iRedMail and Ubuntu OS

Thanks for you reply.
I've allready updated everything.

Worked except a problem with roundcube. In Version 1.6.10(upgraded from 1.5.9) there are no entries in the address book, no signatures and all settings are default. Do you know that problem?
