Hello all,

First, this is test server, I try to migrate very old 0.9.7 to latest version going step by step.

I open web page by IP address, not domain name.

I followed upgrade guide to upgrade from 1.8.0 to 1.8.1.

The first error I faced was that script needed "system" enabled in php.ini

After enabling, installation went without errors.

Then I disabled "system" in php.in.

After restarting nginx, I get this error on web page:

"Oops... something went wrong!

An internal error has occurred. Your request cannot be processed at this time.

For administrators: Please check the application and/or server error logs for more information."

The only error in log is:
2026/10/29 20:25:31 [error] 81022#0: *7 open() "/var/www/htdocs/mail/skins/elastic/images/favicon.ico" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 192.168.5.106, server: _, request: "GET /mail/skins/elastic/images/favicon.ico?s=1748763912 HTTP/2.0", host: "192.168.76.137"

I will appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Ivo

How did you upgrade iRedMail?

Re: Roundcube not working after upgrade 1.8.0 to 1.8.1 on OpenBSD 7.8

Hi Zhang,

I followed the documentation provided.

First, back up nginx files.
Second, edit nginx files as provided.
Then upgraded Roundcubemail to 1.7.0 as per documentation.

Restart nginx, restart server two-three times.

Let me know if you need any additional info.

Thanks,
Ivo

Nginx is configured to buffer cache the log, so you won't see the log in real time. Please remove "buffer=4k" in `/etc/nginx/conf-enabled/log.conf`, then restart Nginx service and access the web page again, check Nginx log files immediately.

It's not clear what the issue is without related log lines. Please try to grab more log lines for troubleshooting.

Re: Roundcube not working after upgrade 1.8.0 to 1.8.1 on OpenBSD 7.8

Hi Zhang,

I do not see "buffer=4k" in /etc/nginx/conf-enabled/log.conf

The content of /etc/nginx/conf-enabled/log.conf is:

access_log /var/www/logs/access.log;
error_log /var/www/logs/error.log;

Any other place to look?

I thing find typo in /etc/nginx/sites-available/00-default.conf or at least I was not able to get Let'sencript certificate before I edit this row:

    # Allow ACME challenge to be served over HTTP (don't redirect to HTTPS).
-  location ~* ^/.well-known/acme-challenge/ {
+  location ~* ^/.well_known/acme-challenge/ {
        root /opt/www/well_known;
        try_files $uri =404;
        allow all;
    }

Thanks a lot,
Ivo

Re: Roundcube not working after upgrade 1.8.0 to 1.8.1 on OpenBSD 7.8

New update here.

I made new clean installation of OpenBSD 7.8 and iRedMail 1.8.9 MAriaDB.

I am getting the same error when I try to open Roundcube page:

Oops... something went wrong!
An internal error has occurred. Your request cannot be processed at this time.

For administrators: Please check the application and/or server error logs for more information.

In access log I get this:
x.x.x.x - - [07/Nov/2026:11:10:41 +0200] "GET /mail/ HTTP/2.0" 500 634 "https://xxxx.xxx/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:159.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/159.0"

In error log nothing relevant:
2026/11/07 11:04:17 [warn] 47652#0: the "listen ... http2" directive is deprecated, use the "http2" directive instead in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/00-default-ssl.conf:6
2026/11/07 11:04:17 [warn] 47652#0: the "listen ... http2" directive is deprecated, use the "http2" directive instead in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/00-default-ssl.conf:7

How can I enable verbose log?

Thanks for your help,
Ivo

I'm testing it on local VM, will keep you posted.
BTW, any plan to migrate to a Linux machine?

Re: Roundcube not working after upgrade 1.8.0 to 1.8.1 on OpenBSD 7.8

Fixed: installing package php-curl fixes the issue.
https://github.com/iredmail/iRedMail/co … cfecdce03a

pkg_add php-curl
ln -sf /etc/php-8.3.sample/curl.ini /etc/php-8.3/curl.ini
rcctl restart php83_fpm

Re: Roundcube not working after upgrade 1.8.0 to 1.8.1 on OpenBSD 7.8

Update: working on OpenBSD 8.0 support, new iRedMail release will drop support of 7.9 and all earlier releases.

Hi Zhang,

This fixed the issue on the fresh install. Thanks a lot.

On the old/upgraded server issue persist. I suspect here that something went wrong with upgrade from Roundcube 1.6.11 to 1.7.0.

The scrip in the docs do:
./bin/installto.sh /opt/www/roundcubemail, but /opt/www/roundcubemail is simlink to /opt/www/roundcubemail-1.6.11 in my case and I assume all OpenBSD 7.8 installations. I did not change anything there.
What I see is that some files and directories in /opt/www/roundcubemail-1.6.11 were changed after upgrade.

Now, what I see in error log is this:

2026/11/07 19:42:40 [error] 89299#0: *13 FastCGI sent in stderr: "PHP message: PHP Warning:  file_put_contents(/opt/www/roundcubemail-1.7.0/logs/errors.log): Failed to open stream: Permission denied in /opt/www/roundcubemail-1.7.0/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube.php on line 1386; PHP message: PHP Warning:  SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied for user 'roundcube'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /opt/www/roundcubemail-1.7.0/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube.php on line 1520" while reading response header from upstream, client: x.x.x.x, server: _, request: "GET /mail/ HTTP/2.0", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9999", host: "mail2.xxxx", referrer: "https://mail2.xxxxx/"

Thanks a lot for you time and efforts!

This would be very nice!

If you need someone not very skillful to perform any tests, let me know.

I would be happy to help.

Did you install and enable php-curl after upgrade?
